TEZPUR. Shyam Mehrotra, Inspector General (IG) of North East Frontier of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Headquarters had an elaborate meeting with Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh in Itanagar on Thursday, where both dignitaries discussed various issues like opening of new units and construction of roads.
The issue of acquisition of land for various projects of ITBP was discussed. The Frontier IG also discussed the special plantation drive being undertaken by ITBP in the State of Arunachal Pradesh.
Mehrotra also elaborated about the free medical camps being organised for villagers and their domestic animals in remote border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. He requested the Chief Minister to direct Government officials to help ITBP for speedy acquisition of land at various locations, for which proposals are already submitted with various departments.
Pema Khandu appreciated the role of the ITBP in guarding the international boundaries in the high altitudes of the Himalayas. He praised the role of ITBP in the development of border areas. Khandu further said that local people have full faith in the ITBP and they admire it for its dedication to its duty and people-friendly approach.
He also said that ITBP personnel are not only brave, but they are professionally the best in high-altitude Himalayas.
He requested the IG to launch a special recruitment drive for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh. He also assured that if ITBP plans to open new battalions and border outposts in Arunachal Pradesh, his Government will extend all help and provide land at the earliest.
