'Jawab do, Modi..', Congress Rebukes PM Modi Over China's Intervention In Tawang

ITANAGAR: Indian and Chinese forces engaged in scuffles in the Tawang sector on December 9. India retaliated to China's incursions in a "firm and resolute" manner.

The Congress has requested that prime minister Narendra Modi clarify his "connection" with China amid political outrage from opposition parties over Chinese soldiers' attempts to cross the LAC (line of actual control) in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, last week. The party posted an image with the hashtag "#JawabDoModi" that claimed the Chinese state-run Global Times had stated that "(if) Modi loses Gujarat then it will have a bad effect on China."

What is your relationship with China, #JawabDoModi (Modi's response)? In 2014, when opposition parties banded together to criticize Modi for not dismissing then-Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti over alleged hate speech, the Congress declared; the party also raised the cry "JawabDoModi."

In 2022, the refrain "JawabDoModi" is heard once more, this time in protest of China's plainly illegal attempt to alter the state's political landscape.

Tawang's conflict:

Chinese and Indian soldiers engaged in combat in the Tawang region on December 9. China was compelled to retire when India responded to its invasions in a "strong and uncompromising" way, the administration claimed. Defense sources told news agency ANI that the Indian Air Force has also been activated; "in the last few weeks, there have been situations when our jets have to be scrambled..." to take down hostile drones.

Unlike the conflict in the Galwan Valley in June 20202, Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, assured Parliament that there were no fatalities and no significant injuries among Indian soldiers.

However, the altercation led to an uproar in Parliament and charges from the Congress that the prime minister and the government were "hiding the truth." The party claimed Singh's statement was "incomplete" and that the Modi administration had watched silently while China broke international boundaries.

Cong. response:

Other opposition MPs, such as those from the Communist Party, the Shiv Sena, the RJD, and the SP, joined the Congress in staging a walkout.

On Wednesday morning, opposition parties left the Rajya Sabha once more.
