ITANAGAR: The last regional pre-Budget consultative meeting with various stakeholders was convened at Bomdila, the headquarters of West Kameng district on February 4. It was attended by Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung among others.

The meeting convened for the four districts of Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng and Pakke Kesang, was held under the chairmanship of Planning & Investment Advisor, Jambey Tashi.

Tashi informed that the government's vision of conducting regional pre-budget consultative district meeting was to obtain valuable suggestions from all the stakeholders to prepare an effective, realistic and people friendly Budget for 2021-2022, which is going to be presented in the ensuing Budget session of the Assembly from February 25 next.

"The Budget is the most important documents for the people as well as for the government to plan the overall development of the State, " said Tashi adding that despite the financial challenges faced by the State due to COVID-19 pandemic, the government continued to carry forward core development activities and ensured timely release of salaries, wages of government employees including pension to pensioners.

Addressing the meeting, Natung while speaking on the topography, cultural and climatic diversity of the districts in the State, said that the idea of pre-Budget regional consultation meeting was to understand the problems and potentials of each district.

"Budget plan will be successful only when it touches all the aspects of the districts," the minister added.

The MLAs and DCs of West Kameng and Tawang placed the development proposals of their respective districts and stressed on the potential of the both districts especially in the Tourism sector.

In the year 2019, approximately 56000 tourists visited Tawang which is more than the total population of Tawang (44,000 as per 2011 census). Though both the districts have huge potential in Tourism sector but lagging behind because of non-availability of basic facilities like power supply, road connectivity, parking places, they pointed out.

Health, education, tourism, road connectivity, agriculture, horticulture, hydropower, sustainable development, shortage of human resource, employment generation, infrastructure requirements were some of the key areas discussed in the meeting.

Earlier, Planning Secretary N.T. Glow explained the objectives of the pre-Budget consultative meeting with stakeholders.
