Massive Landslides washed away Army transit camp by Flash Floods at Sessa Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar : Massive landslides due to incessant rains in the last couple of days have left a trail of devastation in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh while an Army transit camp located at Sessa was totally damaged.

The stretch of Bahulukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) Road is the worst affected with reports of landslides in several portions of the road, official sources informed, adding the Kimi-Khupi road is also badly hit by landslides.

Bhalukpong Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Tomo Riba informed that a massive landslide on August 1 last hit the Army transit camp at Sessa and its ration store, barrack, generation room and ammunition store and were buried under the debris. However, 22 jawans and a Junior Commanding Officer (JCO) had a narrow escape while one of them sustained minor injuries.

Riba attributed heavy incessant rainfall caused by cloud burst to massive landslide saying that no casualty has been reported so far.

Though the BCT road was closed by an order but the landslide blocked seven locations between Pinjoli Bridge Point to Sessa and the area has been totally cut off, Riba said.

A team of officers led by Bhalukpong police station OC Dutto Bagra rushed to the spot immediately on getting the information to take stock of the situation. The mobile connectivity has also been disrupted while radio connectivity disrupted too. However, the Army personnel were shifted to another barrack located downside of the said transit camp area.

The NEEPCO project road connecting Kimi with Pinjoli, Khuffi and Tenga has also been blocked at multiple locations due to landslide and erosion.

The BCT road is unsafe for commuters due to continuous slides, soil erosion, shooting stone and rolling boulders which may cause loss of life and property for which an advisory was issued yesterday cautioning the commuters not to travel along Pinjoli-Kimi and Kimi-Khufi road till restoration, Riba added.
