ITANAGAR: In a major utilization of modern-day drone technology, a package of medicines was successfully delivered to a remote location of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.
A package containing essential medicines was picked up from Seppa and delivered to a remote location of Bana. It is located in Richukrong Circle of the East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The current Arunachal Pradesh government under Pema Khandu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the World Economic Forum. The key idea behind this agreement was to explore the possibilities of delivering essential items to far off villages in the state using drone based systems. Special emphasis was on the delivery of life saving drugs to locations with no proper road connectivity. Although similar attempts have been made in the past, they have failed due to a variety of reasons ranging from weather disturbances to network failures.
The East Kameng district of the state mainly comprises hilly terrain. This makes several regions of the state unreachable by any vehicles. And the conditions become way more severe in the monsoon season. The implementation of drone-based delivery systems is expected to resolve this problem to a very large extent. Emergency medicines can now be delivered to the exact point of need along with other necessary items.
These drones have been created with vertical take-off and landing capability. They have been manufactured in the country itself and are operated from the district headquarters in Seppa. This system is many times faster and much more efficient compared to the existing method of using roads.
Bengaluru based Redwing Aerospace initiated this pilot project in the remote locations of Seppa. The project is supported by Samridh Healthcare Blended Financing Facility and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Named "Medicines from the Sky" is an initiative of the WEF with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh as a stakeholder.
