SEPPA: Seppa town MLA Tapuk Taku attended the annual day prize distribution ceremony of Ramakrishna Sishu Vidyamandir School at Lamdung near here on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, Taku said that the annual day celebration forms an integral part of any school activities. It is an occasion of celebration, felicitation, feast and festivity when students present not only display their wonderful performances but also receive honours for their curricular and co-curricular achievements.

He said that education is about far more than what happens within the four walls of a classroom. The primary focus in many cases is academics, which certainly is an important aspect in building a student's career and life, but many fail to recognize the importance of sports and other activities.

"Extracurricular activities and sports teach students many important life lessons. It teaches discipline, focus, dedication, hard work, commitment, teamwork. And it is our responsibility as adults to value sportsmanship and award the courage of students to take action, rather than focusing on winning or losing," he said.

Taku also took the opportunity to highlight the negative impact of drug abuse, which is a very serious matter not only for the youths of the East Kameng district, but also for the entire State.

He appealed to the teaching staff and the school management to come forward to create more awareness on such anti-social activities.

Taku said that the people of the district are thankful to the Rama Krishna Mission for responding to the request of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for providing true education to the children and youth of the State, especially for the East Kameng district.

"I also thank Minister Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung without whom this would have ever been possible. It gives me immense pleasure to know that the school today has 148 local students and one non-APST," he said, adding that the school has its own transport and 75 students and staff are brought from Seppa every day.
