ITANAGAR,: A NABARD-sponsored training programme on candle making for self-help groups (SHGs) of Jairampur in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, concludes on Thursday.

The training programme is under the micro-enterprise development programme (MEDP), which is being implemented by Bethel Life Care Charitable Trust (BLCCT), an NGO.

A total of 30 SHG members have undergone the 15 days of training which was arranged in such a way that women attendees could start their own ventures.

NABARD District Development Manager (DDM) Kamal Roy attending the programme, informed that the bank has been supporting need-based skill development programmes for SHGs.

"MEDPs are on-location skill development training programmes which attempt to bridge the skill deficits or facilitate the optimization of production activities already pursued by the SHG members. Grant is provided to eligible training institutions and SHPIs (Self Help Group Promoting Institutions) to provide skill development training in farm, off-farm and service sector activities leading to the establishment of micro-enterprises either on an individual basis or on a group basis," he said.

Roy also emphasized the production of finished products with market linkage keeping competitive prices.

He congratulated BLCCT for implementing the training successfully and also advised SHG members to frame a business model and start production on a small scale.

Block Mission Manager of Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) Rani Linggi speaking on the occasion congratulated the trainees on the completion of MEDP training and also encouraged them to become entrepreneurs now. BLCCT president Chandan Prasad informed that the training would enable the rural women to improve their skills in producing different types of candles and assured full support on supplying raw materials at a cheaper rate. The valedictory programme was concluded with certificate distribution to SHGs, while BLCCT handed over moulds to the trainees through which they could start making different types of candles.
