National Girl Child Day observed in Arunachal

Itanagar: The National Girl Child Day was observed at Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday along with 640 districts of India with the theme ‘Empowering Girls for a better tomorrow’.

The Programme organised by ICDS under the supervision of district administration was attended by large number of school children and women who thronged the Aalo streets on procession with posters, banners and slogans in the morning, an official release informed. Attending the occasion, West Siang DC Swetika Sachan said that girl child deserves special attention and all flagships programmes initiated by the central and state governments should reach every girl child.

“The government has enacted various laws to safeguard the interests of girl child to do away all gender differences prevailing in some communities and societies,” she added. Dr Nyage Geyi said that gender gap that exists today should be bridged and that sex determination is a gross punishable offence, the release added.
