PASIGHAT: The National Panchayati Raj Day (NPRD) was celebrated today in all Gram Panchayats of the East Siang district.

The day was observed under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (in charge) Totdo Borang at the DC's office conference hall. It was attended by the PD-cum-DPDO Tajing Padung, ZPMs Bimal Lego (Oyan) and Anung Gammeng (Ruskin), GPCs/GPMs, Member Secretary (GP), PTAs and other panchayat officials.

Borang stressed on the importance of transparent and successful conduct of Gram Sabha by all elected panchayat members and called for dedicated participation of panchayat members and villagers.

He also gave away awards to winners in various categories to four gram panchayat segments, including Child Friendly Gram Panchayat award (CFGP) to Ledum-I GP, Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGSP) to Runne-I GP, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) to Diking GP and Taki Lalung-II GP.

PD-cum-DPDO Tajing Padung briefed the gathering about the importance of the celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day, conduct of vibrant gram sabha and various themes to be prioritized under the sustainable development goals to be taken up by all the gram panchayats under the East Siang district. Among others, ZPM Bimal Lego and DNO (PMFS) Onyok Sitang spoke on the occasion.
