National Voters Day observed across Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Along with the rest of the country, Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday observed the National Voters' Day in a befitting manner with the theme "Electoral Literacy and Stronger Democracy".

Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta member Yeshi Tsering addressing the function at Borum, near here, said that the day signifies the importance of voting in democracy and to educate the young voters to participate in the voting process and to renew people's faith in election process.

He also requested the people to uphold the pledge taken during the National Voters Day and said it is their moral obligations to ensure integrity of the election process and to exercise their voting right judiciously with full understanding during any election.

Tsering congratulated the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who have been felicitated for their outstanding service and advised them to continue their good works and to ensure that every eligible voters be it senior citizen or physically handicapped should find their names in the voters list.

State Election Commissioner Hage Kojeen in his deliberation highlighted the importance of the day and appealed the young voters to exercise their voting rights in a free and fair manner and choose the leaders with good vision and ideologies to maintain the true meaning of democracy.

Earlier, State Chief Electoral Officer Juhi Mukerjee informed that the day marked the significance of the effort made by each and every voter to educate themselves and to contribute to the nation.

A total of 14 booth level officers from Balijan, Leporiang, Parang, Kakoi, Doimukh, Kimin, Banderdewa, Naharlagun, Toru, Itanagar, Gumto, Sagalee, Silsango and Mengio were felicitated with certificates and mementoes on the occasion.

The day was also observed at Aalo at DC office.

Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Henkir Lollen administered the pledge and read out the NVD message for the district.

EAC (Election) Julity Mihu and Assistant ERO Kartu Bam speaking on the occasion said that the day is observed every year to commemorate the foundation day of Election Commission of India.

They exhorted all to feel proud to be a voter.

A report from Lower Subansiri district informed that the day was observed in the district where district electoral officer (DEO) Chukhu Takar, Deputy DEO Nending Chatung, SDO B Tawsik and administrative officers, BLOs, heads of departments and students from St Claret college participated.

On the occasion the four best BLOs – Likha Ado and Toko Nabin from Yachuli and Habung Tadi and Millo Magia from Ziro Hapoli were felicitated.

The DEO also administered the NVD pledge to all present.

A report from West Kameng district stated that the day was observed in the district headquarters Bomdila which, was graced by MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma.

Reiterating on free, fair and peaceful elections, Kharma urged the people especially, the 'to be voters' to rationally and ethically vote after attaining the right age and be the torch bearers for a stronger democracy.

ADC Gombu Tsering, ERO Sang Khandu, AERO Tenzing Yangchin, Assistant Professors Tenzing Dolma and Dr Aruna spoke on the occasion.
