NHPC inks MoU with CCI on cement for Dibang Multipurpose Project

Itanagar: The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cement Corporation of India Limited (CCI) for exploring possibilities on cement requirement for the Dibang Multipurpose Project (2880 MW), said a press note from NHPC.

The MoU was signed by Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC A K Singh and B V N Prasad, Chairman and Managing Director of CCI at the NHPC corporate office at Faridabad on Wednesday, a press release informed here on Thursday.

The MoU will pave the way for addressing the cement requirement for the project. Consequent upon confirmation of studies, CCI has proposed to install a clinker grinding unit near the project area, which besides fulfilling the cement requirement of the project, will also generate employment opportunities in the area subject to finalization of modalities subsequently.

S Sakthimani, Director (Finance) CCI, VK Maini, Executive Director (SBD&C), NHPC and other senior officers of both organizations were also present on the occasion.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) last year approved the? 1600 crore expenditure for pre-investment activities for the Dibang Multipurpose Project in Lower Dibang Valley district of the State.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 28,080.35 crore at June 2018 price levels.

The 2880 MW hydropower project will be the largest ever Hydro Electric Project to be constructed in India. At 278 meters, this will be the highest dam in India once completed. Arunachal Pradesh will get 12 percent free power from the project. One percent of free power will be given in the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The total benefit to Arunachal Pradesh from free power and contribution to the LADF will be Rs 26,785 crore over the project life of 40 years.
