ITANAGAR: Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh during a joint operation apprehended a rebel of the NSCN (R) from Changlang district, a senior Police official from the district said here on Tuesday.
Based on specific intelligence inputs about movement of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Reformation) cadre in Changlang Town for carrying out extortion activities, a joint team of district police and personnel of 9th Assam Rifles along with CRPF launched an operation on Monday evening and apprehended the rebel, he said.
The apprehended cadre has been identified as Noksom Tangha, a self-styled revenue in-charge of Changlang Town, Changlang Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo informed.
The arrested cadre of the outfit is a resident of New Sallang Village in the district, he said. A motor cycle and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession, the SP said, adding that he was actively involved in extortion racket being carried out by the rebel group in the district.
