ITANAGAR: Security forces in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh apprehended an active cadre of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Reformation (NSCN-R) and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, while another cadre of the outfit surrendered before police, a senior police official from the district informed on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old rebel, identified as self-styled Lieutenant Salhap Jugli alias Salnang, was apprehended during a joint operation by 9th Assam Rifles and district police from Jongsum village under Kantang circle of the district on Tuesday, Changlang Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo informed.

One Italy-made pistol along with six rounds of live ammunition and incriminating documents were recovered from his possession. The cadre was actively involved in forceful extortion in the district for the outfit.

The apprehended militant was handed over to district police. Another active cadre of the outfit, identified as self-styled Private Bansam Hangphuk (33), a resident of Watlom village under Yatdam circle of the district, surrendered before Changlang police, Assam Rifles and CRPF on Wednesday.

Gambo said that the operation was a part of ongoing crackdown on insurgent groups operating in the district by security forces and police, to maintain peace and tranquility in the region.
