ITANAGAR: The department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (SD&E) conducted an orientation programme for the first batch of 30 boys and girls to provide training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana (PMKVY - 3.0) at the directorate office here recently.

Taking ahead the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a "Skill India focused with value addition", the department rolled out its wagon wheel to create a resource rich manpower that fits and churns the economy of the State and for livelihood of youth.

The department resumed all its skill development ecosystem post COVID so that the youth of the State could be trained in specific trades and can be employed in various economic sectors.

Addressing the youths, director of SD&E Subu Tabin informed that the trainees are being sent to Assam Professional Academy, Guwahati to undertake training on Retail Sales Associates job role, for which the entire training expenses is being borne by the State government.

"After completion of the training, 70% of them will be provided the gainful job. I also urge all to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocols which is a mandatory component of the training programme," Tabin said.

He said that the State government has recently established short term Skill Development Training Centre at Tawang to provide skill development training to the youth in electrician and plumbing.

Tabin also informed that the Department of SD&E has taken numerous initiatives in the State in skilling the youth and providing them with gainful employment either wage employment or self employment to improve their livelihood.

"These skill initiatives are expected to put the State in the developmental map of the country. Arunachal Pradesh Skill Development Mission (APSDM), under the aegis of Department of SD&E, is currently implementing the State Managed component of Central scheme - PMKVY 3.0," he added.

He said that the objective of this Skill Certification Scheme (SCS) is to enable a large number of youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

Further, APSDM is also implementing the State funded Chief Minister Yuva Kaushal Yojana (CMYKY) to provide high end employable skill development training to youth of the state, he added. Besides, the department is all set to begin new initiatives like Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) and Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE). The Department is also aiming to upgrade ITIs through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, up-gradation of existing ITI s into model ITIs and setting up of 9 new ITIs under Enhancing Skill Development Infrastructure (ESDI) in NE States.
