Abang Taro Chatung-veteran journalist from Arunachal Pradesh passed away on Saturday morning 26th October at Tamo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS), Naharlagun. The pioneer of electronic media in the state, late Chatung was an inspiration for media persons of the state.
He was related to several burning issues of the state.
Chatung’s mortal remains will be kept at his residence at MOWB II near AG office for well-wishers to pay their last homage.
His ancestral home is in Ziro, so his rites will be performed there.
Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed grief and condolences to the family.
In social media, Khandu Tweeted that it breaks his heart to know Chatung is no more. He went to any extent to extract the truth and present it before the public. A sincere, grounded, straightforward, honest, witty and courageous journalist it would be impossible to fill the void he has left behind.
He grew up hearing about him on ‘News & Views’ every evening through the weekdays on DDK Itanagar.
He further added Taro Chatung despite landing up with a prestigious government job, chose media as his profession and become its pioneer in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh will always remain grateful to the late journalist for his service to the state, he further added.
The chief minister offered prayers for eternal peace of the departed soul while solidarity with family members, relatives, and the media.
