ITANAGAR: The second plant of PepsiCo India in the Northeast is all set to come up in Arunachal Pradesh.

Announcing this, Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote in his Twitter handle, "Had a productive meeting with Mr Ravi Jaipuria, Chairman Varun beverages Ltd, along with Shri Kiren Rijiju. Glad to share that the second plant of Pepsi in North East will be coming to Arunachal with various other chains of food craft outlets in tourist destinations across the State."

In 2020, PepsiCo India had submitted a proposal to set up a greenfield project for manufacturing Lays and Kurkure chips in Assam worth Rs 400 crore. PepsiCo India president Ahmed El Sheikh speaking to media said that the company is committed to double its business from snacks business in India and also increasing the capacity of existing food plants in West Bengal and Maharashtra; and it has additionally proposed to set up a greenfield manufacturing facility in Assam.

With a mission to support local farmers, PepsiCo India said that the company would engage in contract farming (buyback policy) whereby it would provide seeds to the farmers and buy back the matured potatoes from them. Currently, PepsiCo India has been working with over 24,000 farmers in 13 States of India.

PepsiCo India has emerged as one of the largest food and beverage companies in the country in 30 years of its establishment in India and is looking to build further. (Agencies)
