PASIGHAT: In a massive plantation programme, taken up by the engineering wing of the State's Education Department, as many as 120 saplings were planted in the premises of the Niglok Sainik School here on Saturday.

The school's principal, Commander Praveen Kumar Pola, planted the saplings along with other dignitaries and cadets.

Speaking on the occasion, the principal said that in order to provide a better environment for the future generations, saplings should be planted wherever possible, adding that care must be taken to ensure that saplings survive and grow into big trees.

"We must have unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our mother nature," he stated, quoting that greenery and cleanliness would lead to better health and would make the environment pollution-free.

Pola, while encouraging the cadets (students) to generate awareness on how to safeguard nature for future generations, highlighted the importance of plantation of trees and asserted that instilling in them good habits could secure a better place to live in.

He commended the State Education Department's engineering wing for launching the plantation drive in the school campus.

He also extended his gratitude to the participating officers and parents for making the event successful.

Among others, Squadron Leader Gaurav Sheoran (Administrative Officer), Subedar (Rtd) GSS Krishna, STs Sujay Banerjee and Manoj Deka, DDSE O Tabing, SMO Dr Kadum Jonnom, EE (engineering wing) of the Education Department G Karo and his associate engineers, RGU Associate Professor Marpe Sora, Rajeev Panyang and Arak Modi, and engineers of Ruksin electrical circle also participated in the drive.

Later, in a coordination meeting held at the principal's chamber, Commander Pola asked the electrical engineers for early charging of electrical infrastructure and provision of external electrification to the newly-established prefabricated campus latest by April 30 next as the cadets of III, IV and V batches are set to report on May 5.

He also sought 'Safety Certificate' from the concerned authority in the meeting for reopening of the school on scheduled time.
