Plasma donation a means to fight COVID: MP Tapir Gao

ITANAGAR: Applauding Arunachal Pradesh Indian Medical Association (IMA) unit's decision to hold six-day plasma donation drive at TomoRiba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao made a fervent appeal to 14,870 people who have recovered from COVID-19 in the State to donate their plasma.

The State government, led by the medical fraternity, worked to the best of their capacities to save lives of many as indicated by the high recovery rate, he said while urging the recovered persons not to miss the golden chance of saving lives by coming forward to donate their plasma.

Namsai lawmaker Chau Zingnu Namchoom, who was one of the nine to have donated plasma, said, "I consider myself very lucky to have donated plasma at TRIMHS after my recovery from COVID-19 infection which might have saved someone's life.

"Now, I have no problem; and have been touring the State," said Namchoom who is also the State BJP secretary. He added that all COVID-19 recovered persons should volunteer for such donation.

TRIMHS Director Dr Moji Jini,informed that State's lone medical college-cum-hospital has collected plasma of nine recovered patents and administered it to two patients so far; of whom one has fully recovered. Appreciating blood bank officer DrPassangSona and technical expert DrTashiPaleng for their services to the humanity, DrJini also appealed to the recovered patients to turn into plasma givers through such donations. All doctors are committed to serve the humanity, said IMA State unit general secretary DrJegoOri even as the doctor regretted that only eight have come forward to do so due to various misconceptions.

"Those males in age group of 18 to 60 years who have completed two months or minimum 28 days of their recovery both symptomatic and asymptomatic and females who have not conceived yet are eligible to be a donor," he said. The plasma therapy would not only improve the recovery rate and reduce mortalities in the state while one plasma unit could save two lives.
