CHANGLANG: MLA Phosum Khimhun, who attended the Pongtu festival celebration on Tuesday, said that the festival connects us with nature. And, therefore, it is our prime responsibility to protect and preserve mother nature.
Phosum Khimhun said that unlike any other festival being celebrated in the state, the Pongtu festival is also celebrated for a good harvest, prosperity, and protection from natural calamities, epidemics etc.
He also appealed to the public to preserve and protect their tradition and culture. The identity of a tribe is only known when the tradition and culture of the community are alive or in practice. “Our culture is important because it allows people to maintain a unique identity in society. Therefore, it’s the young generation to preserve and bring continuity in the preservation of the culture,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tali MLA Jikke Tako appreciates the Tutsa community to maintain the ancestral way of festival celebration. He said that the community is known for its culture, and the Tutsa community has well preserved it.
He appealed to the Tutsa community to celebrate the festival in a spiritual way by avoiding any modern influence. Besides, he also urged to propagate the indigenous faith among the next generations of the community. Among others, Chayangtajo MLA Hayang Mangfi, MLA Jummum Ete Deori, and local MLA Tesam Pongte along with officials of the district attended the celebration on the day.
