ITANAGAR: In a massive operation against illegal opium cultivation in Anuboli area of Koronu circle in Lower Dibang Valley district, approximately 20 acres of poppy plants grown in over 15 isolated fields were destroyed by the district administration, district police and the Tax and Excise department.

The operation was headed by Executive Magistrate (Koronu) Aniyang Ratan and DSP Ringu Ngupok, accompanied by officers and officials of Tax and Excise department. As reported by CO Aniyang Ratan, it was learnt that cultivators were mainly from the neighbouring districts of the State. There was no resistance from the illegal cultivators and no untoward incident was reported during the operation. Further, such operations will continue in the district.
