PR conclave appeals for creating connections among people

Itanagar: “There is a disconnection between projects and people. We as personal relations (PR) practitioners are responsible for creating the connections,” veteran journalist and mass communication professor KV Nagaraj said in his presentation on “Communication Tools for Effective Implementation of Government Projects” on the concluding day of the PR Conclave here on Saturday.

“Although mass media plays a complementary role in development, Interpersonal communication is important to reach out to the masses” he added.

Samudra Gupta Kashyap, a veteran journalist based in Guwahati dwelt on “Role of PR in Dissemination and Democratization of Information”.

“Media freedom is an indicator of democratic reform. It should ensure free flow of ideas, opinion and knowledge and making information accessible to everyone,” he said.

“Democratization of dissemination of information will strengthen different pillars of democracy. Information flow must be at multiple levels and multidimensional with many conversations feeding into the collective consciousness,” Gupta further added and stressed that the country needs communicators and not just journalists.

Regional Director (North East Regional Campus) of Indian Institute of Mass Communication Aizawl LR Sailo spoke about “Public Relations and Good Governance: Scope and Challenges for PR Professionals in NE India”.

Amrita Chakraborty, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University Gandhinagar, spoke on the “Importance of Digital Media and its Future Outlook”.

While Monjib Mochahari, Assistant Professor of Assam Don Bosco University spoke on “Fake News and Misinformation: PR Challenges and Strategies” Dr Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Head of Department of social work at Rajiv Gandhi University here, dwelt on “Taking Social Welfare Projects to the Last Person”.

IPR Director Obang Tayeng also shared his field experiences highlighting the contributions of the department.

The mass communication students of St Claret College, Ziro and RGU appreciated the PR conclave calling it “an enriching and learning experience”.
