PRC protest: Next hearing on December 2, 2020

ITANAGAR: SP Special Investigating Team (SIT) Dr. Hemant Tiwari on Friday informed that the next hearing of 25 persons against whom summons were issued from the court in connection to the PRC protest case is scheduled on December 2, 2020 next.

He said that a summons was issued on September 8th this month by the court. Among the 25 cases, 10 of the cases were transferred to the SIT for further investigation.

Addressing the media person at PHQ, Tiwari said that the 25 accused persons have been charged sheeted and summons have been issued and served. He said that the department is making all effort to bring the case to a conclusion at the earliest.

"We would also like to set an example by punishing that person taking the law in their hand and thus violating the 'Prevention of Damage to Public Property' Act, he added.

Also informing about the department's fight against the drugs, Tiwari said that the police department is in war to end the drug trafficking and arrest the drug peddlers.

He said, besides many arrests of drug peddlers this year, the police department has also initiated search operations in various districts in the state. The details on the search operations will be shared in the coming day, he added.

"We are also working on the modernization of the police department. Therefore, an amount of Rs.6.10 Crore has been sanctioned by the government under Tirap Changlang and Longding (TCL) action plan for the 'mobility sector'," he informed.

Tiwari said that a total of 120 vehicles of different kinds will be purchased to streamline the fight against insurgencies and the plan to roll out the vehicles is scheduled to be on "Police Week" celebration.

"Total of 62 PCR vehicles are under procurement. They will be distributed amongst the district as per the requirement," he said, informing that the security forces this year have arrested 129 insurgents so far.

He said that the department recently reviewed cases with specific focus on crime against women, crime against children, review of pending departmental enquiry, police related infrastructure projects and implementations of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) projects etc.

"In particular with the CCTNS project, there has been remarkable progress. Data entry which was about 30% in the year 2019 has increased to 82% by September 15 this year," he added.

Meanwhile, IGP (Law & Order) Chuku Apa informed that an NGO-"Drug Free Arunachal (DFA)" in collaboration with APP has developed 'DFA Mobile Application'.

He said that the application was launched for Yupia and Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC) on a trial basis by DGP RP Upadhyaya earlier. Whereas the launching of the application for pan Arunachal as a pilot project will be done in the month of November next.

"Through the App, the common people can now easily send pictures and videos of people consuming or selling drugs and accordingly a case will be registered in the nearest police station," Apa said, adding that the informers' details will be kept secret.

When questioned on the recent FIR lodged by the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce & Industries (ACCI) on looting the vehicles transporting essential good at various locations of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), Apa said that he has been receiving such complaints on regular basis but has no idea about the FIR filed by the ACCI.

He requested the complainants to provide evidence to such cases as without the evidence there is not much the department can do but change the staff in the various check points.
