ITANAGAR: Incessant rain continues to wreak havoc, triggering landslide in Arunachal Pradesh and disrupting normal life in the north eastern state.

Surface communication between Bhalukpong and Tawang has been remaining disrupted for the last couple of days .

The worst affected area is Bhalukpung, where rain waters washed away a tanker apart from two other vehicles. These incidents took place near the Lumum waterfall. But the drivers of these ill- fated vehicles managed to escape unhurt.

Parts of the vital road from Bhalukpong to Tawang have been washed away causing immense inconvenience for the commuters of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

This is expected to trigger crisis of essential commodities in the entire hills state for a couple of weeks. The Border Roads Organization has been deployed to restore the surface communication. But it might take time since there is no let up in the weather scene as on date.

Defence forces are also facing no less hardship to move on this vital road in Arunachal Pradesh bordering China.

The authorities have advised the commuters to take the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tawang Road for the time being. But the commuters claimed that it would not be easy to use this road as on date.

On the other hand, heavy rainfall in Siang is also disrupting normal life in the East Siang district. The Siang belt has witnessed heavy landslides at Lelek Erak on the Pasighat-Pangin highway. Road communication between Boleng and Dite-Dime has been remaining snapped for the last 5 days. The authorities have restored normalcy in Lelek only. Work is on to restore surface communication in Lileng area.

In yet another setback, a guard wall of the NHPC-owned Subansiri hydro power project in Gerukamukh collapsed after the rise of the water level of the Subansiri river. This has forced the authorities to safely evacuate around 1000 workers engaged in the project.

The met office has predicted more rainfall in several NE states, including Arunachal, in the next two days.
