Itanagar: The department of Social Work of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, on Tuesday observed the Social Work Day by all the students, faculties and staff.
Assistant Professor Dr Ravi Ranjan Kumar while focusing on the theme ‘Promoting the Importance of Human Relationships’ said that it is inevitable to social well-being.
Students and Ph.D. scholars of the department also shared their views necessitating the need for strengthening human relationships by extending empathetic ears. Emerging concerns like depressions, breaking families, juvenile delinquencies and social disharmony were attributed by students and scholars as by-products of growing anonymity and weakening relationships.
The trust and bonding in society (Social Capital) functioning as a hedge to unforeseen challenges was acknowledged as a pressing need by the students.
Department’s head Dr. Kaushalendra Pratap Singh expressed his views on promoting human relationship which should not be a one-day event instead it should be promoted every day.
He stressed ‘appreciation’ as the core value of human relationships.
“Appreciate whatever happens around you. If one appreciates oneself then he will appreciate his work and also others. Instead of spreading negativity, why not appreciate others which would help them in their growth has a ripple effect in social well-being,” he said.
Dr. Singh concluded the programme by asking the students to pledge and appreciate others in their day to day life.
Cultural activities with songs and poetry recitations, creativity competition commemorating the theme were some of the highlights of the day-long programme, a press release informed here.
