ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday urged the officials of tax, excise and narcotics department to be more vigilant to stop revenue leakage and enhance its collection.

Chowna Mein, who also holds the tax, excise and narcotics portfolio, paid his maiden visit to the department's office here during the day.

On the issue of pay disparity of the departmental officers, the deputy chief minister said that many other departments are also facing pay anomaly and all such issues would be taken together for resolution on a later date.

He also desired to have a review meeting with the departmental officers after the budget session.

Citing drug menace as a serious issue confronting the youths, Mein said that the department needs to provide support to the poppy cultivators with some alternate crops and also to encourage contract farming for the benefits of the farming community.

Tax & Excise Commissioner Kanki Darang informed that the department has three wings and presently it is the highest revenue earner of the State.

Darang added that the department has earned Rs 878 crore till December 2020 of the current fiscal, which is higher than the collection made during the last financial year, which stood at 860 crore.

Deputy Commissioner (GST) Tapas Dutta through a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the activities of the department, an official communiqué informed here.
