RP Upadhaya Takes Charge As Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP)

ITANAGAR: RP Upadhaya took over charge as Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) after the transfer of former DGP SBK Singh to Mizoram, on Saturday.

This is the second tenure of RP Upadhaya in the State. Earlier, in 1994-1997, he served the state as SP of East Kameng and Tirap districts. He joined the State as the new DGP in the month of March and was working in the Raj Bhawan as Commissioner to the Governor.

Interacting with the media persons here at Police Headquarters, the DGP informed that his top priority will be to provide professional police service to the people of State. “The protection of the life of people and property is the top priority. For this I require a very happy and healthy force so that they are able to serve better,” he said.

“Welfare of the force will be my first priority in terms of housing, office building and other benefits which they deserve,” he said adding that until and unless we have a force which is properly trained, equipped and has faith in the leadership, they won’t be able to deliver.

In terms of capacity building, the DGP said that the priority point will be strengthening the cyber capability. He also added that training and modernization needs of the department will be other sectors which will be given priority too.

He also informed that a traffic wing will be created. The department will also reward the dedicated, sincere and honest officers for their endeavour to bring a positive change in society. The DGP also informed that after the celebration of Independence Day, the department will be appointing staff on compassionate grounds. He said that this issue has been pending for long and thus the problem will be solved at the earliest.
