NAMSAI: Personnel of the 12th BN NDRF and local police have started a 'Search & Rescue' operation in the Noa Dihing River to find the college student who went missing in the river here on Saturday.

The deceased identified as MankaiWangpan (18 years) is a student of 'Venerable Uktara Bethany College', Manmow here and is a permanent resident of Zedua Village of Longding district. The incident occurred when he along with two of his colleagues had gone to the river for swimming.

''As soon as we received the call from Namsai district administration, a team of NDRF comprising 25 personnel from Dhemaji (Assam) moved to the site to conduct search and rescue operations. The team reached Namsai late Saturday night and started a search operation at the very first light on Sunday,'' informed Rakesh Kumar, Inspector of 12BN NDRF.

Investigation Officer, Mahadevpur Police, V. Kumar has informed that the incident occurred at around 11am on Saturday. ''Search and rescue operations with the help of local divers have been initiated since Saturday; but, the body could not be traced. So a call has been made to the NDRF team to assist us with their men and machine in the operation,'' he added.
