Seminar on climate change concludes at Rajiv Gandhi University

ITANAGAR: A two-day national seminar on “Climate Change and Adaptation Strategies for Sustainable Livelihoods,”, conducted by the Environmental Sciences department of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), concluded on Tuesday. The inaugural function of the seminar on Monday was chaired by RGU VC Professor Saket Kushwaha along with member secretary of Guwahati-based Assam State Space Application Centre P L N Raju, convenor of the seminar Professor S K Patnaik, Dean of Environmental Sciences, Professor C Jagannathan, Dean BIT Mesra, Professor Nandini C Singh, Head of Geography RGU, and Dr Chandra Sekaran M, head of RGU’s Geology department.
P. L. N. Raju, while addressing the event, stressed the importance of development in science and technology and its use in predicting weather and natural hazards and providing connectivity in remote areas. Keynote speaker Professor Jagannathan dwelt on rainfall patterns and its relationship with forests and climate, with examples ranging from global phenomena to local issues.
The VC congratulated the team for choosing a very important topic that is relevant for the present scenario and highlighted changing agricultural patterns with global climate change. Around 100 participants registered, and 35 of them presented their research work in the seminar, which highlighted climate change and its effects on the environment, climate, biota, and livelihood.
