ITANAGAR: A person identified as Nyakpu Yangfo, who has been on the run for a month after failing to appear before SIC (vigilance) following a summon in connection to the Seppa-Chayangtajo NEC road scam, has surrendered before the District session Court, Bomdila here on Wednesday.
SP (SIC) Hemant Tiwari said that the accused surrendered today at around 10:30 am at District & Sessions Court, Bomdila and prayed to be released on bail in event of arrest.
In the meantime, SIC has also submitted its request to grant 14 days of Police custody. Upon considerate deliberations the lower division Court has granted 7 days police custody of the accused, he said.
"The SIC has conducted raids at multiple locations in Itanagar Capital Complex, East Kameng and Kurung- Kumey districts respectively to apprehend the accused but was in vain," he said, adding that the SIC (vigilance) has obtained a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against the accused.
He said the accused Nyakpu Yangfo, apprehending his arrest in the present case, had approached the Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench, Naharlagun, on September 7 last for grant of 'interim protection', which was denied.
"Subsequently, on September 14, the Gauhati High Court, Itanagar Permanent Bench, Naharlagun, heard the matter and rejected his pre-arrest bail application after finding it not a fit case where the privilege of pre-arrest bail can be extended to the accused," he added.
Nyakpu Yangfo, was posted as AE (independent charge) Chayangtajo, PWD division from 2009 to 2011 during the first stint and subsequently posted as Executive Engineer from 2019 to 2019 during the second instant and was wanted in the instant case. A case under SIC (VIG) PS Case No.02/2021 U/S 120(B)/420/465/471/409 IPC R/W Sec.13(1)(c)(d) & 13(2) PC Act, 1988 was registered for the construction and improvement of Seppa-Chayangtajo road (81km) under NEC.
