SIC Sleuths Foil Extortion Bid, NSCN (R) Commander Arrested

Itanagar: In a major breakthrough, the sleuths of Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of the Arunachal Pradesh police, has foiled an extortion bid by the outlawed National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Reformation) (NSCN-R) in the State capital with the arrest of its commander and a businessman.

A team of personnel from SIC on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of the NSCN (R) to carry out extortion in the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun, arrested the rebel along with a businessman near Nyorch in Naharlagun on Sunday, SIC SP Dr Navdeep Singh Brar told media persons at police headquarters here on Monday.

The arrested cadre was identified as NSCN (R) Changlang region commander, self-styled Major Phangran Jugli. He is wanted in five cases under Changlang police station.

Police also arrested Manoj K Mittal, a businessman who was aiding the rebel in his conspiracy, the SP said.

While Jugli hails from Rangran Village in Changlang district, Mittal is from Margherita in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

A case has been registered and investigation is on to unearth the conspiracy and to arrest other accomplishes of the arrested rebel, Brar added.
