ITANAGAR: "We are making sure that all the reports and current status of trials on legislators (sitting and former) is completed at the earliest. Once it is completed, the records will be submitted to Guwahati High Court through the Arunachal Pradesh Home department," said Superintendent of Police (SIT Crime), Hemant Tiwari.
Tiwari also informed that all the information sought by the Guwahati High Court has not been completed. He said that the process of updating the records and information is being collected from district SPs.
He also stated that the letter sent to the district Superintendent of Police seeking current status of criminal cases registered against legislators (sitting and former) is purely for "internal circulation to ascertain the status of investigation and trial of the cases".
Addressing media persons at the Police headquarter here, Tiwari said that with regards to WP(C) (Suo Moto) No. 03/2020, the State of Assam and others, information was sought by the Home department of Arunachal Pradesh regarding criminal trials cases against legislators (sitting and former).
"Accordingly from the records, data of criminal cases registered against legislators was drawn and sent to the districts SPs to ascertain the current status as on October 9, 2020," he said, adding that unfortunately the letter along with a list of legislators' names have been circulating on various social media platforms.
He said that data related to trials in respective Courts is not being maintained at PHQ. Therefore, the letter was sent to district SPs to ascertain the current status on the case in their respective district Courts.
"It is to further clarify that the letter is not the response of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh with respect to WP(C) (Suo Moto) No. 03/2020 (XXX-Vs-State of Assam & others) in the Guwahati High Court," he added.
