ITANAGAR: NPP Legislator Mutchu Mithi along with Commissioner Planning & Investment Prashant Lokhande released a special postal cover on 'Idu-Mishmi textile' at the head post office near here on Thursday.

The programme was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Postal Division. The 'Idu-Mishmi textile', having FI No. 625, is registered under GI Registry, Government of India.

Addressing the gathering, Mithi said that Arunachal Pradesh has many tribes with distinctive art, cultures and identity. However, it is a proud moment for the Idu-Mishmi community as its textile is being focused in the Indian postal cover.

He said the Idu-Mishmi textile is famous among people not only in the State but in the country. But it is also the responsibility of the community to create more approaches to make it illustrious, thereby making a livelihood with growing demands.

"Handicrafts and textiles are an important part of our lives and they should be promoted by every means. Though the State Government is encouraging handicrafts, we also hope it is further promoted in places like Railways, bus stations and airports, across India," he added.

Lokhande also appreciated the State postal division for the idea of postal cover which will highlight the art of the Idu-Mishmi tribe of the State across the county.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Post Subrata Das informed that the use of special cover is not confined within the State, rather it will be used across the country in every single post office.
