Stary Dog Menace On The Rise In Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The stray dog menace in Tawang township of Arunachal Pradesh is increasing at an alarming rate. People are wary to go for their morning and evening walks. Children and old people are facing more problems. Fortunately, so far, there has been no reported case of rabies-infected stray dogs in Tawang.

In a recent case, a child’s ear was ripped off by a stray dog near the old Circuit House.

Keeping in view the problems being faced by common public, Tawang DC Sang Phuntsok on Wednesday called a meeting of all concerned which included the Army, ITBP, SSB, head of departments and NGOs like Monpa Mimang Tshogpa, Tangyom Tsokpa, EPS, MBPCs, The Humanity Group, TMEs, Secretary Tawang Monastery, AMSU, ATDSU and public leaders to discuss for a solution to this menace of stray dogs.

District veterinary officer (DVO) Dr A Tamin apprised the meeting about steps taken up by department to handle the situation of increasing number of stray dogs and suggested soem solutions. The members present in the meeting decided to constitute a core committee for seeking sponsorship donations for taking care of dogs. Temporary segregation of dogs at the proposed dairy farm site of the Veterinary Department near Temilo has been decided besides sterilization.
