ITANAGAR: A powerful wind storm accompanied by rain lashed Jullang and adjacent areas on Monday night causing extensive damage to as many as 35 houses and also the office of Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited (APFCL) located at Chimpu near here.
Many of the houses were either flattened or had their rooftops blown off by the powerful winds that ripped through the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).
Speaking to The Sentinel, Gram Chairperson of JullangPanchayat, TanaTaha Tara said that most of the houses in the area have been destroyed by the wind. He requested the department concerned to provide relief to the affected households.
Due to the heavy wind, the entire electric pole has been damaged causing no electricity supply in the area. A complaint has been submitted for the repairing of the electric poles to the department, he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF)-cum-Managing director of APFCL Tapu Gapak informed that there no human casuality has been reported from the office, which also serves as the office of the Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board.
"The incident occurred last night. The office was damaged due to the falling of trees and the entire roof of the office building was blown away," he said.
He also informed that the Minister for Environment & Forest, Mama Natung visited the office building on Tuesday morning; and, assured to renovate the damaged parts of the building at the earliest.
