ITANAGAR: Hundreds of people from all walks of life on Friday participated in a protest rally organized by the Tirap Changlang Longding and Namsai Students Union (TCLNSU) of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) against the alleged rape and murder of one Ngenem Ngaimong.
The union demanded capital punishment of the accused, fast-track trial of the case and immediate formation of an SIT, as assured by the Miao ADC.
Speaking to the reporters, (TCLNSU) TCLNSU general secretary Hongkhil Tekhil claimed that the victim was mercilessly raped and later murdered by the accused.
He also said that such act cannot be executed by two persons and suspected the involvement of more culprits in the case. Hence, demanded that the SIT should investigate the case and arrest other accompanies.Students, TCLNSU, rape
Former student leader Biru Nasi said that rape and murder cases have been increasing in the State due to lax laws and delayed punishment.
He said that prompt judgement and strict punishment without any delay in such cases will send a strong message and no one will commit such crimes in future.
Meanwhile, APPSU vice-president Meje Taku appealed to the Department of Home to immediately intervene into the matter so that the accused is served punishment according to the law. According to the Changlang SP Mihin Gambo, the police received a missing report on March 11. Subsequently, the investigation was taken forward and arrested two person for kidnapping, in the initial stage on March 27.
He said that the public demanded handing over of the accused in their custody, which is against the law. Later, being agitated, the public torched police vehicles parked in the station, he added.
"The police have confirmed the involvement of Arun Shisku (24) and Dinesh Mardi (22) in the case. Both are basically from Dibrugarh, Assam but work in Kharsang," he said.
