ITANAGAR: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Arunachal Pradesh Police was found dead in his official quarter at the Police Colony here on Friday morning, a senior police official said.

Sibu George (55), who was posted at the police headquarters here, was found dead with cut marks in his neck, Itanagar police station officer-in-charge Inspector Passang Simi informed.

George hails from Kerala. As the news spread, a group of senior police officers, including IGP (Law & Order) Chukhu Apa and OCs of Itanagar and Chimpu police stations, rushed to the spot and launched preliminary investigations. The IGP confirmed the incident as a case of murder.

The mortal remains were sent to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) at Naharlagun, near here, for post-mortem.

A case (No. 18.2022 u/s 302 IPC) was registered at the Chimpu police station to intensify the probe to trace the murderers of George, Apa said.

Expressing deep shock over the incident, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) vice-president Meje Taku condemned the murder and wondered as to who would protect the civilians if protectors are murdered in the State capital.

He called upon the Home Department to take urgent steps to bring the guilty to book and award exemplary punishment to set an example to prevent repetition of such incident in future.
