Tage Taki: Stress laid on preserving Nyishi culture, traditions

SEPPA: Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Tage Taki attending the Nyokum Yullo celebration as chief guest at Nyokum Lapang here on Wednesday, urged the people to preserve the age-old tradition and culture of the Nyishi tribe. Nyokum is a beautiful festival of togetherness, he said.

"Once you lose your tradition and culture, you lose your identity of being Nyishi or any other tribe," he said while adding that the folk songs, folk dances, local language and other rituals and customs are the only tools that will help in preserving their identity.

Encouraging the youths to move towards innovative farming, Taki assured all help to the passionate and progressive farmers. He said that Arunachal Pradesh has huge potential in this area and therefore requested the youths to come forward and make agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry as their profession and a source of income.

"Farming is not a low-profile job," he said informing that his department is also working on the modalities to provide the best subsidy to farming enthusiasts.

Later, he also gave away LPC to the 236-education institutions of East Kameng district in the presence of DDSE Kata Rangmo.

Legislator Tapuk Taku asked the people to participate in the Nyokum Festival with a joyous feeling, irrespective of tribe and religion. "It's important to preserve the tradition and culture because it keeps identity intact," he said.

Calling upon the gathering to eradicate the thought of individuality and bring the community on a single platform to celebrate the festival, Taku said that God never said that a person belonging to another religion is not allowed to be a part of Nyokum celebrations.
