ITANAGAR: The Itanagar Capital Police apprehended three drug peddlers and seized 34.25 gm of suspected heroin during a raid at Gai farm in Nirjuli here on Wednesday.
The peddlers have been identified as Saddam Hussain (23), Mofidul Islam (37) and another Saddam Hussain of Assam. Both Saddam Hussains are from the Lakhimpur district and Mofidul Islam is from the Kamrup (M) district. Along with the suspected heroin, Rs 10,000 in cash was also seized from the peddlers.
According to the police, a larger conspiracy of the trio in procuring heroin from the State of Nagaland and selling it off at ICR has been discovered and busted.
A police team consisting of Deputy Superintendent of Police Dekio Gumja, Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Minli Geyi, Jumli Kamdak and other constables from Nirjuli and Naharlagun police stations respectively carried out the raid.
Capital Superintendent of Police Jimmy Chiram said that it is a continuing effort by the department in fighting against the drug menace.
A case (No.82/22 u/s 21(b)/27(a)/27A/29 of NDPS Act) has been registered at the Nirjuli Police Station and the matter has been entrusted to SI Techi Tado for further investigation.
