BOMDILA: Bomdila Police personnel arrested truck driver Passang Tamang and also seized his truck loaded with illegal timber worth several lakhs of rupees here.
West Kameng Superintendent of Police (SP), Raja Banthia informed that on Wednesday night, information was received by the police that a truck loaded with illegal timber from Nafra would cross Bomdila on its way to Assam. Accordingly, a 'naka' was set up by the Bomdila Police Station OC Sub Inspector K Dev and his team during the night. Around 2 am, the police personnel noticed a truck approaching the area. It was stopped and a search operation was launched. A huge amount of timber was found inside the truck. During interrogation, the arrested driver revealed that the seized illegal timber was loaded in the Khazalang area of Nafra and was on its way to Bhalukpong in Assam."
The SP further said that the Bomdila District Forest Officer (DFO) has been informed about the seizure. A case (Bomdila PS C/No. 31/2 U/S 379/411 IPC R/W SEC 3/7 of A.P. forest (removal of timber) Act 1983) has been registered; and investigation is underway to find the other accused persons involved in the illegal timber trade.
"A detailed investigation is being undertaken to ascertain all the facts as it has been learned that illegal timber operation is being carried out in some parts of the district," SP added.
