ITANAGAR: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday stressed the promotion of local products, saying that such an initiative will boost the self-sustainability of local producers. Attending a trader’s conference at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the BJP’s month-long Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan, the Minister of Earth Sciences suggested that the products should be as per market demand with competitive prices and the producers should follow set protocols for import. "This will not only boost our self-sustainability but also benefit our local producers, who at the moment are suffering due to the lack of a market to sell their products," he said. The Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan is being conducted to mark nine years completion of Narendra Modi government at the Centre and seven years of Pema Khandu government in the state.

Stating that Ziro is one of the biggest tourist hubs in the state, Rijiju urged the people to work hand in hand with the state government for the overall development of the state. Highlighting the developmental initiatives of the central as well as the state governments, Rijiju said that the Pema Khandu government has been working for the all-round development of the state with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "All the central and state projects in the state are going on at a fast pace," the minister said, adding that, as a representative from the state, his responsibility is to sanction developmental projects from the Centre for the greater interest of the people. Appreciating Modi for all-round development in the country, Rijiju said that India’s growth story continued with persistent and methodical efforts by Modi, for which the country’s economy stood at the fifth rank globally, which was at the 10th position in 2010. The minister assured the traders that they would take up their issues raised during the programme with the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, state Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Tage Taki said that tourism, horticulture, fishery, and livestock were the potential key industries that could propel the economic growth of Ziro Valley. He said that traders in the Ziro Valley should take advantage of the god-gifted natural bounties, which have the potential to boost their economy to a great extent if harnessed properly.

He also highlighted the basic amenities established in the district for the traders and stressed on creating an Atma Nirbhar in Arunachal Pradesh by strengthening the agriculture and allied sectors, enhancing the quality of output, and improving the livelihoods of the dependent population. BJP state general secretary Zingnu Namchoom highlighted various activities during the month-long celebrations.
