Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) in a representation to Shillong-based NEEPCO Chief Managing Director (CMD), drew his attention regarding shifting of the NEEPCO’s coordinator office at Itanagar to Doimukh’s Pare hydro electric plant. The union also demanded upgrading the NEEPCO office at Itanagar to a regional office to be headed by an executive director.
Pointing out that Arunachal Pradesh is considered a future powerhouse of India with 30 per cent hydropower potential of the country, the apex students’ body of the State said that NEEPCO Ltd has commissioned the 405 MW Ranganadi Project, 110 MW Pare Project, 600-MW Kameng Project while signing many MoUs with the State Government to execute new projects for which the Itanagar office would play a significant role in the future, but its
shifting decision has come as a shocker.
NEEPCO has many power projects in Arunachal Pradesh which should not be overlooked and aspirations of local people met, the memo signed by AAPSU president Hawa Bagang and general secretary Tobom Dai said.
The union hoped that its genuine plea and demand would be duly considered, otherwise the union would decide its own course of action.
