BORDUMSA: An Upper Diyun Block Chapter with a strong central committee and 16 village-level subcommittees comprising more than 450 members was officially constituted here on Friday at Hajong Community Hall in Arunachal's Diyun in the Changlang District.

The central and village-level sub-committee village-level committee (VLC) with jurisdictional areas covering 16 villages was launched during a special event held in the presence of Somlung Mossang, an independent legislator of Bordumsa Diyun Constituency.

"The central committee, along with the VLC, has not only been endorsed with the responsibilities of maintaining peace, bonhomie, and mutual understanding in the society but is also expected to educate the village people by means of awareness to defend themselves from the various misleading and disrupting forces often seen activating when the election draws nearer," said Dilip Chakma, the president of the Central Committee.

"Unless the simple, easy-going, and ignorant villagers are well educated about their active participation, role, and function in building a healthy society, the Mongers with evil and vested interests always find it easy to divide the society and grind their axe," said MLA Somlung Mossang.

Briefing vividly in a nutshell about the pace of development that the constituency has picked up on multiple fronts, Mossang said that the love and trust that people have reposed on him is not 'a purchased one using either cash or checks." "I believe in making people my partners in the development process rather than exploiting their possessions or mortgaging their peace and happiness to achieve my selfish ends," added the legislator.

"I believe the committees in their respective villages would not only educate the people politically but would also train them to handle the evil agents in a befitting manner before reaching any definite conclusion involving their future endeavours, protecting their properties and rights from being encroached upon," said Mossang.

Meanwhile, various office-bearers participated actively during the meeting and demonstrated their strong willingness to work together for the common good, enhancing the level of mutual trust.

According to Robin Kumar, an active social activist, the formation of the Committees holds significance in the wake of rising cases of rural indebtedness among the Hajong brethren, who are mortgaging their mental peace, their nights sleep, and their own happiness to some power-hungry private players much ahead of the election.
