Itanagar: Aalo, the headquarters of West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh, has been hit by an unprecedented water crisis due to extensive damages of headwork of all water sources from Ene, Hisum, Hide rivers and Panya stream due to incessant rain in the past couple of days.

Considering the gravity of the situation, the PHE department led by executive engineer Kirba Sora are engaged in restoration works on a war footing, an official release informed.

Many people have volunteered to take part in the restoration process. The department is making alternative arrangements to supply drinking water through private vehicles even as it would be a tough task to cater to water needs of the entire town dwellers.

Earlier, a large chunk of the population did not get drinking water for nearly for a week due to disruption of headworks at Ene River and the department somehow managed to restore the damages by using JCB in the river.

Aalo East MLA Kento Jini accompanied by departmental engineers visited the site of restoration but hardly after two days, another flood fury did all the damages to create a major crisis for the department and the consumers. The task looks herculean as manpower and machines have to place in all four sources to speed up the restoration process, the release added.
