ITANAGAR: Rohan Agarwal, a 20-year-old boy from Nagpur, Maharashtra with an objective to create awareness on the destructive impact of plastic on human beings and environment and to spread the message of humanity and brotherhood, has finally reached Arunachal Pradesh after travelling through most of the States.
Rohan has so far travelled to 23 States of the country and aims to complete the rest in five more years. He travels by foot and sometimes takes lifts from unknown people on his way.
Addressing reporters at the press club here on Wednesday, Rohan said that he was just 18 years old when he began the journey from Varanasi. He said that his journey was inspired by the same act used in the era of 'Gurukul', in ancient India which is called 'Destan'.
He said such a foot march during the early days was mainly to understand different religions, languages, cultures, and people, to broaden one's outlook on life and to be a good person.
"While I aim to gain all these, I also thought of creating awareness on the harmful impact of plastic. At the same time, I also wanted to drive out the rumors of negative emotions in aspects of caste, religion, language, culture and class," he said, adding that he aims to spread the message of humanity and brotherhood for a united India.
He said that though the use of plastic cannot be totally stopped, but it can be minimized. People have to use the plastic only in need and hoard it in an appropriate way to be recycled, rather than being dumped in open space creating pollution.
