Brutal Attack on Assam Doctor, 24 Arrested, CM Condemns ''Barbaric'' Act

Hojai, Assam:

The doctor, Seuj Kumar Senapati,was posted at Udali CCC in Hojai district of central Assam. He was attacked by over 24 relatives of a patient including women. The relatives lost their cool after their patient died within hours of being hospitalised. They started hitting Dr Senapati and kicking him as the doctor lay on the ground.

Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Such barbaric attacks on our frontline workers won't be tolerated by our administration.

CM further said that he is personally monitoring the matter.

Assam Police Special DGP G P Singh had tweeted that the 24 arrests have been made.

According to a letter by the Hojai unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to the deputy commissioner of the district, the patient was admitted on Tuesday at 11am and died three hours later at 2pm.
