10-Year-Old Minor Found Hanging in Nagaon's Juria, Family Suspects Foul Play

GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly murdered in Nagaon's Juria on December 27 night.

According to reports, the deceased identified as Sumaya Akhtar's body was found hanging in the kitchen of her house.

Meanwhile, family members suspect their neighbours to be behind the action alleging personal enmity between both the families.

Notably, the deceased father said that they have some personal enmity with their neighbours regarding land and property.

Further, he added that the entire family except Sumaya were out of the house for a family function and miscreants entered their house with a motive of burglary and as Sumaya was present in the house, they killed her.

The police have started their investigation and the dead body has been sent for post-mortem.

A total of 892 murder cases have been registered in various police stations across the state in just 10 months.

According to Crime Investigation Department (CID) sources, in a span of 10 months – from January 2021 to October 2021– a total of 892 murder cases were registered across the State.

In Guwahati, a total of 39 murder cases has been registered. These include 10 cases under Dispur Police Station.

The highest number of cases has been registered in Nagaon district - 65, followed by 62 in Dibrugarh. Baksa registered 24 murder cases, Barpeta 35 cases, Biswanath 20 cases, Bongaigaon 17, Cachar 40, Charaideo 15, Chirang 11, Darrang 17 cases, Dhemaji 20 cases, Dhubri 27 cases, Dima Hasao 4 cases, Goalpara 23 cases, Golaghat 26, Hailakandi 8 cases, Hojai 24 cases, Jorhat 25, Kokrajhar 23, Lakhimpur 39, Sadiya 10, Sivasagar 20, Sonitpur 52 cases, Kamrup 50 cases, Karbi Anglong 31 cases, Karimganj 42 cases, Majuli one case only, Morigaon 24 cases, Nalbari 23 cases, South Salmara 2 cases, Tinsukia 38 cases, Udalguri 15 cases and West Karbi Anglong 5 cases.
