102 cattle heads rescued; 9 arrested by Nagaon police

NAGAON: Nagaon police under special supervision of the new Superintendent of Police, Leena Doley, have intensified ongoing operations against drugs menace, cattle smuggling, trading of fake currencies as well as other criminal activities across the district on a regular basis.

Within the last 24 hours, Nagaon police led by officer in-charge and other in-charge officers of various PS and PPs, rescued 102 cattle heads and seized 7 vehicles from various places under Samaguri, Rupahihat, Uluoni PS and Puranigudam PP while all those cattle heads were being transported in various vehicles from Nagaon, Dhemaji to Shillong. Besides, the police also arrested nine persons allegedly involved in smuggling of cattle heads on spot, sources claimed.

According to sources of police, the arrested cattle smugglers have been identified as Jehirul Islam of Chapor Gunimari in Dhubri district, Kader Ali of Kochutoli under Sonapur PS in Kamrup (M), Sahidur Rahman of Chalchali Jalaharchuk under Samaguri PS, Safikuddin Ahmed alias Rajib of Snakhulagaon under Kochuwa PS, Joinal Abdin, Rahul Amin, Sirajul Haque of Geruati under Khatowal PS, Wahidul Islam of Bajiagaon under Samaguri PS, Ashadul Haque of Amtol under Rupahihat PS.

Police also seized two 12-wheeler trucks bearing registration number AS 01 FC 7087 and AS 26C 2924, one Maximo carrier bearing registration number AS 02E 6954, two 1109 vehicles bearing registration numbers AS 02 CC 3803 and AS 02 CC 6972, one i10 car bearing registration number AS 01EV 8969 and one K10 car bearing registration number AS 09E 3909, sources said, adding that police registered a slew of cases were registered in several PS in the district under which the vehicles were seized. Further investigation in this regard is on, sources added further.

Meanwhile based on a tip-off, a police team from Haiborgaon TOP led by Sub Inspector Taranga Patowari arrested a dreaded drug dealer identified as Biki Sutradhar from Teliapatty gate in the town while he was trying to sell vials containing brown sugar to a customer inside a tea stall in the area. Police also seized around 30 gram heroin, hundreds of empty vials, plastic containers, one mobile phone and a motorcycle from his possession, sources said adding that a case in this regard was registered in the TOP.
