Numaligarh: The recovery of 12 rounds of ammunition of .303 rifle near Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Wednesday has sent the police and forest officials into a tizzy.

One local girl felt something underneath while she went to take a bath in the Mori Diffaloo River near No.2 Kohora. She noticed a bag with several rounds of live ammunition and informed the forest department and police. The police along with a team of forest department recovered the clothes bag and found 12 rounds of ammunition of .303 rifle. Though the police have not been able to crack the case, sources suspect the ammunition was probably brought by miscreants and meant for poaching in the national park, but due to the strict vigil maintained by forest protection forces, they got scared and threw the bag in the river. A probe has been launched by the police.
