Bongaigaon, June 20: The situation in front of Gate No. 5 of Bongaigaon Refinery became worse on Wednesday when the contractual labourers of Bongaigaon Refinery suddenly staged demonstration against Febtech Company which supplies labourers to Bongaigaon Refinery.

Hamid Ali, one of the labourers, said that this company had recently removed 127 labourers from their job without previous notification. “We all are under Febtech Company and have been working in Bongaigaon Refinery since long. This company has always violated the labour act and never provides us proper facilities. It deducts money from the salary of labourers for medical insurance and pension but never gives us those facilities. Suddenly on June, it removed total 127 labourers from their job without previous notification. This is totally inhuman and against the rights of labourers.”

He added, “What will the poor labourers do if they suddenly become jobless? We oppose this inhuman activity and demand that those contractual labourers be hired back immediately. Already we have given a written complaint to the Chirang Superintendent of Police and refinery administration in this regard but we are yet to get a fruitful response. We are helpless now and have no other option but to adopt the path of agitation.” The labourers warned of massive agitation in future if their demands were not fulfilled.
