12th National Voters' Day 2022 celebrated in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, the 12th National Voters' Day 2022 was celebrated in Lakhimpur under the auspices of the District Election Office on Tuesday to create awareness about the need to participate in the electoral process through voting. Commemorating the founding of the Election Commission of India on January 25 in 1950, this year the event has been observed with a theme, "Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative". The theme has underscored the primary objective for the observance of National Voters' Day, which is to urge adults to participate in the democratic process of choosing their elected representatives.

On this occasion, a public programme was held at the District Election Office under the management of Master Trainer Durgeswar Hazarika. Election Officer Mustafa Salim Ahmed explained the objective of the programme and the significance of National Voters' Day.

Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan attended the programme as chief guest. In his lecture, the Deputy Commissioner extended greetings to the fresh voters of the district and called upon all voters to participate in the electoral process to strengthen the democratic system. He called upon the young people to give up their reluctance with regard to enrolling themselves in the electoral roll and exercising their franchise.

On the other hand, Additional Deputy Commissioner Geetali Duworah delivered a lecture on the importance of exercising franchise in democracy and its use. District Information and Public Relation Officer Mandira Chayengiya, Nodal Officers of the Electoral Literacy Clubs of the colleges, Campus Ambassadors also took part in the programme wherein Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) was ceremonially distributed among the fresh voters. In the same programme, the pledge of the National Voters' Day was also taken.
